Skin-Prep for a Makeup Application

Skin-Prep for a Makeup Application

A flawless Makeup Application is all about Skin-prep!  It is important to note that not all skin care works best under a makeup application.  As an example, some skincare is better for a night time routine rather than under a makeup application. As well, the client’s skin type will determine the type of products to be used.   Other important factors to consider as well are type of event, climate condition, time of day etc.

Here is a general guideline and steps that I follow to ensure a happy client every time:

Exfoliating.  To understand why this is important is to know what exfoliating does.  An exfoliator helps clear the skin of dead skin cells including black heads and scarring  and helps the skin to be smoother, more radiant, brighten your complexion and helps absorb your skin care regime better.  This treatment allows the makeup to lay on top of the skin beautifully without the flaky look resulting in a more radiant makeup application.  Some of my favorites are: Sisley Botanical Buff, Kiehl’s Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub, and Guinot Biological Peeling Gel  It is normal practice that I  ask my clients to complete this step at least 2 days before their event.

Cleansing – Properly cleanse the face with Bioderma Micelle Solution and cotton-pad to get rid of any oil or makeup left on the face and neck area.

Mask – This is a great add-on to ensure that your skin is glowing.  There are many many options on the market, but the ones that I have in my kit that I swear by are Sisley Express Flower Gel, and Sisley Black Rose Cream mask. The number of clients and time permitting will determine if we complete this step.

Tone Face – This will restore the skin to the proper PH balance.  Sisley Botanical Floral Toning Lotionis a great product and it is the only toner I carry in my kit.

Serum – is referred to as the ‘meat and potatoes’ of a skin care regime.  The one that I use in my kit and that I buy for all the women in my family is Clarins Double Serum.  This provide the right amount of moisture to the skin and it works great under a makeup as well.

Eye Cream – This step is so important that if you do not apply an eye-cream it can ruin your application.  This is to the point, but very true. Here are a few products that I use in my kit that gives great results: Sisley Botanical Eye and Lip Contour Balm, and Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

Moisturizer – The final step is to moisturize the skin and my product of choice for most makeup application is Embryolisse Lait- Creme Concentre.  This moisturizer is for all skin type and it works great with makeup.
